Bayberry Cottage is a private, waterfront cabin on Lake Francis, a pristine glacial lake in the heart of the Central Adirondack region that's perfect for swimming, fishing, canoeing and just relaxing. Its secluded location makes it a peaceful escape for anyone looking to "get away from it all" and experience the Adirondacks in all their natural, wild beauty.
Three hundred acres surrounding Lake Francis have been lovingly stewarded by the Farrell family since the 1800's, while the remaining sh …oreline of the private, mile-long, half mile-wide lake is "Forever Wild" as part of the Adirondack State Forest Preserve.
Bayberry Cottage, one of the few structures on the lake's shore, is the real thing: an authentic, 1920's Adirondack cabin built just feet from the water's edge. The cabin is an ideal hideaway for nature lovers looking for complete solitude and peaceful lake views. Bayberry is simply furnished and retains an old-fashioned, rustic feel; and its many windows provide gorgeous lake views from almost every room. On warm nights, enjoy a bonfire or cook out on the fire ring just steps from the porch. On chilly evenings, cozy up to the large, handmade stone fireplace in the living room. An enclosed porch also makes a comfortable perch to enjoy the mountain air and scenery day or night, no matter the weather.
The cabin's grounds include a large, private dock for swimming, fishing, and relaxing. A rowboat and canoe are included, and guests are encouraged to explore the lake's natural bays, coves, and islands. Fishing is another favorite activity here at Lake Francis, and these waters are home to Northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bullhead (electric trolling motors only).
Generations of campers have made trips to Lake Francis a treasured family tradition. Its remote location and rustic charm ensure a rare taste of the real Adirondack spirit, where guests can finally "unplug" and reconnect in a place of wild beauty, where the only sounds most nights are the calls of Northern loons, bullfrogs, and crickets.
Lake Francis is located 1 and 1/3 miles from Route 28 near Indian Lake, NY.

“We stayed at Bayberry for the first time last month(9/2020) It was just as described. Right on the water with windows running the full length of the cabin on lakeside. Gorgeous views of a gem of a lake with full autumn colors. We are aging experienced wilderness canoeists who loved the proximity to the water but also the availability of a hot shower and heated cabin to sleep in. Fun lake to paddle plus it has big fish. The owner is on the property and available by phone but otherwise we never saw him. He is most gracious and has a wealth of local information. The remoteness is a treasure as you are only 15 minutes away from Indian Lake yet back a mile or more in the woods on a private road. Great place to see nobody and enjoy nature. We're already planning for next year.”

“we have been going to Brians the past five years. My two toddlers love it there. They love running around the woods and being near the water. We usually like to try to go in the Spring and the Fall if possible. It's very private and my husband loves the fishing. This cabin has everything we need. The owner is always there if you need something and is very friendly. ”

“We stayed here in the summer of 2016. The area is lovely. Please be advised of the following: I sent the owner a deposit of $600 in November 2015 ( date 11/20/15 ). The owner just now cashed the check (3/31/17......you read that right, 3/31/17 ). I advise you to make sure you have money in your account at all times as your check could bounce almost two years later if you are unaware!! ”

“My husband and I spent 5 glorious October days at Bayberry Cottage. The cottage was comfortable even on cold nights. Our host was genial and helpful in every way. The beds were comfortable, the cottage clean, quiet and private, the setting on Lake Francis spectacular, and we had everything we needed. The sunlight pouring in on the autumn mornings was truly amazing. All in all a wonderful place to be! We highly recommend Bayberry Cottage.”

“Spent a great week at St. Francis Lake. Peaceful, relaxing, the perfect getaway. Cabin is simple and is equipped with everything needed to make staying here comfortable. Met very friendly and helpful owner upon arrival, then left alone. Great fishing for Bass and Pike. Brought electric trolling motor for rowboat, but lake not so big you can't row. Plenty of hiking towards Indian Lake and Long Lake. Heard Loons and Owls at night and in early morning. Blue Heron flying just over the water. Looking forward to coming back, ”

“Cabin is just as described. Area surrounding is scenic, secluded, and quiet. Owner is very pleasant and accommodating. Bedrooms are small but adequate, considering most of your time will be enjoying the rest of the cabin and what the outdoors has to offer. I would recommend this cabin to friends and family who are not looking for modern amenities and flash. It is your classic Adirondack lakeside cabin as it should be, simple, peaceful, and quaint. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. ”

“We loved our week at Bayberry. We met the owner, just after being greeted by a black bear cub who darted in front of our car as we started back the dirt road, and he showed us to the cabin. We found it to be well-appointed with plenty of kitchen items for any of our needs, blankets and pillows in the two bedrooms, as well as outdoor furniture and recreational items (canoe, row boat). The area is secluded and quiet, with great fishing all around the lake, and a good depth for swimming just off the dock. The beds were comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was great. We loved the seclusion, but were happy to find good restaurants in Indian Lake and North Creek. We also explored other neighboring lakes with a dinner cruise on Raquette Lake and walking trails near Adirondack Lake. This was our first excursion to the Adirondacks, and this was a great location to experience many of the things the area has to offer.”

“This cabin is perfect to go to, especially for weekend getaways. My girlfriend and I stayed here for three days. All the necessities you would need are included. It is located in a very private setting, with no television or service-- which makes it such a great place to get away from reality and truly relax just for the bit of time you're there. The view of the lake (from inside the cabin and out) is beyond beautiful. We loved having the Adirondack chairs out on the dock-- it made it perfect to have coffee on the lake in the mornings. We kayaked and fished each day we were there; caught a couple of pike and a few 5 1/2 to 6 lb bass. The owner is so nice and attentive should you need anything. All in all, we can't wait to stay here again! ”

“Looking for traditional, pleasantly rustic Adirondack lodging try Bayberry Cottage on Lake Francis. We found everything we needed and nothing we didn't want (noy tv and noisy neighbors). Plenty of wildlife if you're quiet and take the time to look; we have some nice pics of a resident bald eagle, caught some fish, spooked a couple of beavers, and were serenaded by the haunting call of a solitary loon. The cabin is equipped with the essentials. There is a canoe and a row boat for your use. The view from the cabin was one that gives you the feeling that you're alone on the lake. There are only 5-6 other homes on the lake; most of the shoreline is 'Forever Wild'. The cabin is simple in it's layout with an old stone fireplace for chilly nights. The owner quickly gets you settled in and then leaves you in peace throughout your stay. We brought our own kayaks - be sure that if you do the same to clean your boats to reduce the risk of introducing any non-native aquatic weeds to this special lake. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return. Lynniece & Mike”

“ This place is exactly as the description reads! Clean, extremely private, peaceful and very relaxing. Owner was wonderful, there whenever you needed anything, but NEVER bothersome. The lake was great and the boats were so much fun! We went with our 11 year daughter and 17 year old son. They had such a great time that they didn't miss TV or Wi-Fi. They fished every day and even caught a couple fish. We would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing and peaceful vacation!”

“Two of us spent the week of June 14-21, 2014, at Bayberry Cottage. After reading the reviews I was expecting quite a bit from our stay. The reality even exceeded those great expectations. For anyone who wants to get away from it all and enjoy peace, solitude, and beauty, Bayberry Cottage is perfect. The rustic cabin is very comfortable and clean. The views are spectacular. The isolation and seclusion are outstanding. We especially enjoyed the dock and the rowboat. The stars at night are spectacular. One night, looking up from the stars at the dock, the Big Dipper was right over the cabin. The owner was most helpful and solicitous without being obtrusive. In short, you could not find a better place to get away from it all. ”

“What a wonderful place to get away from it all. My wife, dog and I stayed here over Presidents Day weekend and I cannot say enough about how wonderful the cabin and the owner were, we have rented from a lot of different places in the area and have finally found the place we will be returning to. We did not stay at Bayberry but at a cabin about 100 yards away on a hill with a great view of the lake and opposite shoreline, which did not have a cabin on it. Friday night we didn't get there till about 9:30 and the owner waited up for us to show the way back to the cabin and give us a tutorial on the cabin, which has a wood stove which he stocks with coal for the winter, I had never run a wood stove with coal, but this is the way to do it in the winter, no waking up in the middle of the night to throw more logs on the fire, just load it with coal and you are good till the morning. Although temperatures outside were ranging from 5 to 25 throughout weekend we were very comfortable. The cabin itself was great, the interior had just been refinished and had all the essentials necessary to have a comfortable stay in the woods (best part, no tv). The location of the cabin really adds to the experience, it is set back in the woods and if you wanted to you could spend a week there without seeing someone outside your party, but if that isn't what your looking for Indian Lake is 10 minutes drive away where you can go out to dinner at a few different places and restock on supplies, although you can get the grocery essentials at the Stewarts, I would recommend bringing the bulk of groceries with you though as the selection and variety can be pretty slim. The owner was a great guy, he was ready to answer any questions we had and was around if you needed something from him, that said unless I went looking for him or called I did not see him, so he really gives you your space. Once you step out the door of the cabin the opportunities are endless, we spent most of our time outside, mostly ice fishing and had great success without ever having fished the lake and we had the lake to ourselves which is something you rarely get in that area of the Adirondacks. We also did some snowshoeing when the owner offered to borrow my wife and I each a pair of snowshoes, we took a path into the woods which was well maintained, we peeled off the trail about a half mile into it to get to the top of a mountain on the north side of the lake, along the way we saw signs of wildlife everywhere and about 10 deer bedding in the afternoon sun on a ridge. Once we reached our destination we had wonderful views of the surrounding wilderness area and mountains. I could go on and on about this place but you really need to experience it for yourself.”

“If you're up for simplicity and the peace that comes with it, this is your place. It's a bit rustic for the hotel dweller but classic Adirondack style camp accommodations. It's nestled at the end of a private road on a steep hill overlooking Lake Francis. You need to know how to drive well in snow and have good tires. As a former Alaskan, this cabin was warm and the best place I could have picked to provide "real" quiet needed for our family of teenagers to re-connect. It was a bit dusty from the coal/wood stove but bring your own towels and linens. Very functional with a well stocked kitchen; the well water was delicious and owner hospitality made the remote access and the adjustment to a coal stove easy. Excellent ice skating and X Country ski environment around the lake was fun and its close to snowmobiling trails. I plan to go back and I didn't want to leave.”

“ I had a wonderful week at Lake Francis. The cabin was very clean, neat, and comfortable. The view was spectacular, and the peaceful environment was rejuvenating. The owner was very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. It was a week that I won't forget. I sincerely appreciate all of the efforts to preserve such a beautiful place and share it with others. ”

“This original Adirondacks cabin is the most perfect one. Nestled in the pines, steps away from the private lake, it is heaven on earth. You fell transported back in time, exploring the wondrous shoreline of the lake. The cabin is as described, rustic, and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen, and a cozy corner for eating. We love our times here, and will come again and again. You don't want to leave, and when you are there, you don't need to. Bayberry is truly an Adirondack gem.”

“I highly recommend renting this property. We were there for 5 days and can find nothing bad to stay about our stay. Good things: Closeness to the lake inside and outside at all times. beautiful private walking area, loved the views from the kitchen area, great gas stove to cook by, beds were comfortable, smell of the wood burning, comfortable chair on the deck to watch the clouds go by. ”

“I spent a wonderful week at Bayberry Cottage! The accommodations were just as described, and just what I was looking for--a week of peace and quiet in a beautiful, lake-side setting. The location is centrally located and I had several enjoyable drives to Tupper Lake, Old Forge, etc. I do recommend bringing groceries with you because you'll need to drive a ways to get to a food store of any size, but there are provisions locally for all of the staples. I will definitely return to Bayberry; it is a lovely setting, a reasonable price, and a great get-away.”

“What a wonderful experience. Seclusion at its best with all the feel of a beloved family camp. It is like renting your own lake! Owner was very attention to detail oriented. Cleanest rental I have ever been. Fresh cut flowers when we arrived, owner is truly just a gentleman. Thanks for a great stay for my family. ”

“Exactly as advertised. Stunningly beautiful lake. Incredibly private and serene. Loons call at night. You have use of canoe and rowboat and all but a small swath of the shoreline is completely unoccupied. Cottage is clean, basic, and thoughtfully appointed with propane gas stove that you can really cook meals on and nice hot water in the shower. Best of all, it feels like you are right on the lake when you are in the cottage. Also a grill and fire pit outside and 1/2 mile snowmobile trail in beautiful woods you can stroll on. Private dock we enjoyed sitting on. Owners are helpful and friendly. We've rented a lot in the Adirondacks and this was the best experience we have had. Perfect if beauty, privacy and serenity are what you are looking for!”

“Clean&comfortable, but rustic. Very private. Less than 30-minute drive to many fun, family-oriented activities (white water rafting, zip line, paintball, skiing, museums, alpaca farm, gemstone mining, shopping, and more!) Plenty to do on-site if you don't want to go anywhere (swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, bird watching). Owner friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. The description and photos are accurate representations. I would recommend to my friends and family, will stay there again.”
