Wind Song is the perfect place to rest and rejuvenate while enjoying the best that the Adirondacks can offer. By the shores of waters considered to be an undiscovered jewel of the Adirondacks, Wind Song is also close to shopping and other attractions that will enhance your stay in the mountains. Nestled in the northern Adirondacks close to NYS Route 30, Wind Song invites you to enjoy a secluded Adirondack retreat while allowing you easy access to Malone (13 miles), the Adirondack Visitor's Inter …pretive Center at Paul Smith's (19 miles), Titus Mountain Ski Resort (10 miles) and a host of outdoor activities.
Wind Song sits under a stand of grand old white pines on the shore of a small, tranquil pond that flows into the larger Deer River Flow. For the paddler or fisherman, it is a slice of Adirondack heaven. The fishery of Horseshoe Pond and Deer River Flow is a critically important state fishery for several sport species. Birders will find heron, osprey, loons and bald eagles. For a family, it can be a vacation to remember. For the person just looking to get away from it all, it is a quiet retreat from the rush of modern life.
Due to the COVID pandemic, we are restricting the maximum occupancy to 4 people, including children. We are also restricting rentals to week-long rentals only, from Saturday to Saturday. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.
The camp includes two bedrooms with two twin beds each, a living room with a fold-out couch, and an entertainment center with television, and a BlueRay/DVD player. Please note that there is no television reception; the television is present so that you can enjoy your favorite movies. The kitchen has standard appliances including refrigerator/freezer, stove and oven, and microwave. The bath has a vanity, toilet and shower. A full-sized water heater provides plenty of hot water. The dining room and office has a full view of the pond. Attached to the dining room is a large screened porch that is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the view. An outbuilding is available for storage during your stay.
It is important to understand that Wind Song's primary attraction is as a way to get away from it all. Unless you come equipped with your own Verizon hot spot, or if you use a dial-up connection with a local phone number, there is no internet reception at the property itself. Likewise, there is no television reception. Your access to news and outside information will require a trip north into Malone or south to Paul Smith's College. If you wish to remain technologically tuned in, then please consider some other rental.
As with many Adirondack camps, the greatest attraction is the water. A short paddle will bring you the breathtaking scenery and mountain vistas that Horseshoe Pond affords. A longer one will take you to Deer River Flow, and its magical views. Access for canoes, kayaks and swimming is easy from the grassy beach next to the dock. Canoes and kayaks may be secured safely to the dock. (If you need to rent a canoe for your stay, consider Mac's Canoe Livery in Clear Lake, 30 miles south on Rt. 30, http://www.macscanoe.com/.) Motorboats are discouraged. Horseshoe Pond flows into the larger Deer River Flow just downstream from Wind Song; both water bodies have excellent fishing. There is a campground within a few miles with access to the Flow for larger boats.

About Us: I am a senior woman who lives with her sister on a lovely rural property near Watertown, New York. We share the property with twelve chickens, two pet rabbits and our three cats. I work providing environmental compliance services to the chemical industry, which keeps me very busy. Wind Song has been in my family for over 60 years. My parents purchased the property, and I am thrilled to provide others the opportunity to discover the magic of the northern Adirondack mountains.
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Duane: If you like a quiet, rural, almost rustic setting, with an away-from-it-all feeling, then Wind Song is the place for you! A short trip will take you to all the places where the bustle of the Adirondacks can also be enjoyed--Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Placid, and Wilmington/Whiteface Mountain.
Why our property is special: I think that the most special thing about our property is the screened porch. Having three sides open to the sigh of the breeze and a view of the lake while enjoying the woodsy birdsong make it a perfect place for family gatherings or just sitting quietly reading a book. If you are lucky, you can catch a downpour on the porch. It's unforgettable!

“Wind Song is a lovely cottage with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Horseshoe pond is a slice of heaven and was a dream for quiet paddling and birding. We explored many other ponds, lakes and rivers close by as well as three waterfalls right in the area (Everton Fall Preserve, St. Regis Falls, and High Falls of the Big Salmon River). A bit further we visited the Robert Moses State Park on the St. Lawrence River and stopped at several rivers and scenic spots along the way. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing vacation!”
Owner's Response
“Thank you, Kim, for choosing Wind Song for your vacation. I am happy that it met or exceeded all of your expectations!”

“My daughter and I enjoyed this location nestled among the pines along with the peace and quiet. My grandchildren took advantage of fishing off the dock daily. We were able to hike one day and we visited the Wild Center another day. Our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable.”

“Our long drive to Wind Song was well worth the trip. The very well kept cottage is nestled in surrounding pines with a view of Horseshoe Pond near by. Once we entered the cottage, it was very evident how clean, well furnished and decorated it is. In such a peaceful and pine scented setting, one can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and take a break from the electronic gadgets and rush of daily life. We are looking forward to another stay at this comfortable cottage.”

“We have been vacationing in the Adirondacks for the last 11 years as campers; can't do that now. We were looking for a property that accepted dogs, is on a lake (we kayak), secluded (off the main roads), not overly developed (in the woods). Wind Song meets all our requirements, including the house itself: very livable with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and a screened porch. We are returning for the summer of 2022.”

“My family of four (adults) stayed at "Windsong" for 4 nights last week. We had perfect weather and a lovely relaxing stay, kayaking from the back yard, hiking some lovely trails, and swimming at Meacham Lake. One of the best days was when we hung some hammocks in the trees and read books all afternoon. This is a place for peace, quiet and tranquility. The screened in porch and the dock were great for hanging out and watching nature go by. We opted to bring nearly all our own food as we didn't want to spend time grocery shopping and the grocery is not local. We knew this from the info on the listing and from Theresa who is very easy to communicate with and provided quick responses. The cabin is not a spacious brand-new, up-to-date, fancy kind of place but everything works and the beds were comfortable. If you're looking for peace and quiet and outdoor activities in a quiet corner of the Adirondacks away from crowds and need a cabin this would be a nice place for you. ”

“Thank you, Diane. I am glad that you enjoyed your time at Wind Song. I hope that you come back to visit some time. --Theresa”

“We enjoyed our stay at Wind Song. It is a charming cottage on a peaceful setting on a waterway that connects Horseshoe Pond and the Deer River Flow. We had not previously experienced the northwestern region of the ADK but so glad we did! If you love kayaking for miles or fishing this is a great rental. You will practically have the waterways to yourselves. Inside the cottage are all you need to cook, bake, relax, sleep, watch movies and best of all enjoy the breeze on the screened in porch. We found the decor inside to reflect the many memories enjoyed by the owner and her family. She was very prompt at responding and answered any questions we had. Thanks, Kurt and Mary B.”

“The cabin was very comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay, and the area is beautiful and peaceful. There were surprisingly few neighbors present during our week long stay, which added to the wonderful sense of seclusion. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the porch swing listening to the birds and feeling the soft breeze. My husband spent hours on the dock fishing, and even caught a couple of small pike (he said none were worth keeping, but I think he just couldn't stand to kill them). Horseshoe Lake was also perfect for an easy and scenic canoe paddle and just right for a refreshing swim. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some peace and quiet surrounded by nature. ”
Owner's Response
“I truly appreciate it when a new visitor to Wind Song finds their stay so enjoyable that they take the time to write a review that mirrors my own enjoyment of the property. I welcome others to experience the peace and tranquility of Wind Song.”

“Back in 2013, I took a college trip to the Adirondacks and I fell in love. Since then I've longed to return. My uncle told me about this website and I was impressed with description listed on the site. Upon arriving, the description didn't serve justice as seeing in person made it the most wonderful experience I have had in years. Theresa was very accommodating to any questions and was very fast on responding by email/calling/text. The house was very well stocked and is very livable. The morning view of the pond was just breathtaking. The painted turtles walking across her private drive was just remarkable. I strongly advise spending time at the dock and enjoy a fire with some tiki torches and friends. The night sky and cloud formations were so picturesque. Elephant Head trail which is a short drive down Rte. 30 from where this place is a gorgeous hike that isn't too strenuous and about 5 miles round trip with a great view of Lake Titus. I absolutely fell in love with the area and will be coming back yearly. The main town is about a 25 minute drive which has many shopping stores, gas, bank, etc. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great getaway. A+++ and 2 thumbs up for accommodations, providing a cord of wood for fires, having appliances and items in home to use while there in case you forgot anything, and a great overall experience. I am deeply missing my stay and will definitely return. Thank you so very much Theresa. You made many dreams come true.”

“We had an excellant stay at the property. We enjoyed the fact that we each had our own room. We relaxed in the living room in the evening when our fishing was over. We were also comfertable staying in the house when it was raining and could not go fishing. We were able to go to many places near by which we knew with the information that was available in the house. This house of the three we stayed in the past three years was the best.”
