Kayaking and canoeing on a pristine mountain lake, sunset views from the dock and deck, listening to the haunting cry of the loon echo at twilight, fishing from our rowboat, swimming or simply relaxing in a classic Adirondack chair with a good book--this is just some of what our camp on Gull Pond has to offer. Gull Pond is a beautiful unspoiled mile wide and 70 foot deep spring fed mountain lake, less than 15 minutes drive from the village of Tupper Lake, (two supermarkets, antique stores … and restaurants), yet a world apart. Only 35 homes are hidden behind the trees along the four mile shoreline, and there is no public access to the lake. It has the feel of a wilderness lake, and when you are out on it, you may be sharing it only with the loons and the occasional beaver. This of course is especially true if you decide to visit during the fall, which is the favorite time of year for most locals. In the fall, the lake, which is never crowded, is almost always empty, and as the colors emerge, the sights are truly magical. Please note, outside boats are not allowed to ensure the pristine waters are not contaminated with any invasive species.
Our completely private 12-acre camp is situated lake side with 350 feet of lake frontage, and direct Western exposure for beautiful sunsets. Our neighbors on either side are several hundred feet away through the dense forest, in which you're likely to see deer from the deck or living room. Our dock provides easy access to the water, and there's a swimming platform a short distance off shore. We have both a single and tandem kayak, as well as a canoe and rowboat for your use. The lake is home to a large fish population of smallmouth bass, lake trout, yellow perch, and even some freshwater salmon.
The house is of modern construction, with a cedar plank walled living/dining room with cathedral ceiling. There is a comfortable Adirondack style sofa and love seat on the porch and a couch by the fireplace, and an Adirondack style dinner table. There is a fireplace/wood stove in case of cold mountain nights, and we have electric heat as well (the house is completely winterized). The lake view deck has a cedar picnic table and gas barbeque. The deck is adjacent to the living room, and there's screened lake view porch as well. Large sliding glass doors lead to the deck and also provide a view of the lake, only 75 feet away. The kitchen is thoroughly equipped with all modern appliances, including microwave, toaster-oven, coffee grinder, and more. There is a large washer/dryer setup in the full basement.
There are 3 bedrooms, a downstairs master with a queen size bed and lake view, and two upstairs, one with a high riser (2 twin beds), and one with a futon that converts to a double bed. Linens for five are included. There are 1 and 1/2 bathrooms on the main floor--the full bathroom has a combination tub shower, and the second a toilet and sink. We have a Smart TV with basic channels. There is also a bluetooth boombox, a library of good vacation reading (including Adirondack subjects) and a variety of board games.
If you want to leave for the day, you will find plenty of activities within an easy drive. Right in Tupper Lake is the new Adirondack must see--the $30 million Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, also known as The Wild Center--www.WildCenter.org. It's filled with fascinating exhibits, some with live animals, and an extended network of trails and outdoor exhibits including an onsite Adirondack pond. Tupper Lake also features a beautiful public golf course, and town tennis courts. A little further afield is the All-American city of Saranac Lake, and a few minutes past there Lake Placid, with the world renowned Olympic site, many fine restaurants and high end shopping. There are also many hiking trails within an easy drive from Gull Pond. The region also features many fine restaurants of all types, barbeque to haute cuisine. There's antiquing, river rafting, frequent festivals, theater and music, town events, and much more.

“We recently spent a week there with our grandchildren. Lots of time together boating, swimming, hiking, fishing, playing games and just sitting outside and enjoying the seclusion and the beauty (including gorgeous sunsets). The grandchildren (and grandparents) all had a great time. Truly a special place for kids of all ages!”

“I would recommend this camp without hesitation. My wife and I stayed the last week of September and the Fall foliage was spectacular. The camp has a beautiful location on the lake, there is a quiet little island just a short distance off the dock that is perfect for a picnic or just hanging out on the lake. The camp is fully equipped and very comfortable. We felt right at home immediately. It is perfect for a small group and ideal for young children. We have traveled to the ADK frequently over the past 15 years and have stayed at everything from back-country tent camping to various lodges. This was our first stay at a private residence and it was really a special treat. If you are looking for a quiet, private place in the woods for a small group of friends or family to enjoy everything the ADK has to offer this is great choice and at a very affordable price. I'm hoping we can return next year for another week. ”

“We had a great time at this camp and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be in a quiet place on a small lake in the 'daks. It was great to use the kayak and bike-boat and tool around the lake without worries about fast motorized boats. We chatted with a few neighbors and especially enjoyed swimming out to the island, or even doing the island circuit swim. A lovely place. Quiet and comfortable, small and cozy. Near many great kayakable areas. ”

“I have been visiting this area for years on remote paddling trips and finally decided to find a camp that would allow me to share the beautiful Adirondacks with my family. I am so grateful that I stumbled across Gull Pond Camp! This gem of a property was an amazing place to stay and provided us the authentic Adirondack experience that I was hoping for. The owners have done a fabulous job to make your stay at this private and pristine pond comfortable and relaxing. The cabin was clean, well maintained, and stocked with just about everything you need to make you feel at home. ”

“This was my second visit to this camp. The camp itself has all the amenities anyone can ask for: compact kitchen, comfortable living space and views to take your breath away. It is exquisitely private. I found it to be the perfect ADK vacation spot. ”

“Our family really enjoyed our stay at Gull Pond Camp. The house was very private, clean and cozy! We loved every minute we spent swimming, fishing and relaxing at the lake. We saw more loons than people! We have vacationed in the Adirondacks before but the location of this home and the quiet/undisturbed nature of this lake was by far our most favorite! It is close to many great hikes too! The owners were very communicative and helpful leading up to our stay, and were very prompt in returning our rental deposit! We we will definitely be back. Gull Pond Camp is truly a wonderful and special place!”

“This is the second time we have rented the house on Gull Pond. Our first experience several years ago left us all feeling like we spent a week in a secluded paradise. Often the memory of a place and experience can grow exponentially in ones mind. If one then has the opportunity to return it can be a let down. After all not many things live up to the fantasy, Not so with Gull Pond, The minute we arrived we immediately experienced the place as we remembered it. The Adirondacks in July and August is an extremely busy place. One can be bumper to bumper driving through the well known areas. At Gull Pond you are isolated and removed from the crowds. You are situated on a pristine pond ( it's actually more of a lake) with un interrupted views of the surrounding foot hills of the high peaks region. One has the sense that you and the loons are the only ones there. It is quiet and peaceful. Each morning we would go down to the dock and swim in the clear clean waters without another soul to be seen or heard. The kayaks, a single and a double, are much fun to explore the area as is riding the pontoon bike that sits tied to the dock. The house is fully equipped with all the comforts of home. If one is looking for luxury then this would not be your place. It has a rugged well lived in feel. There is a screened in porch with comfortable seating and a terrific front porch deck that allow for beautiful vistas of the pond and hills. It's a great place to sit and watch the sun go down. As we were leaving we already were planning out next stay here. The owners are wonderful people who really want to make your stay a memorable one. ”
