Outside you are minutes away from all the splendor that makes the Adirondacks a magical place. Every morning you can canoe or kayak the Moose; a beautiful, serene, quiet nature sanctuary where you can visit remote sandy beaches, look for loons, otter, woodpeckers, and blue herons. You can swim at the sandy beach on Old Forge Pond (w / lifeguard) in town or take a hike up to a remote beach on beautiful Nick's Lake. Walk or bike 1/2 mile to 2 trailheads and hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the Adirondack Park system, leading to places like Nick's, McKeever Lock and Dam, and the famous McCauley Mountain. Or, you may choose to relax and view the scenic Moose River from the front porch while enjoying a good book or cup of coffee.
You will enjoy the cottage, but the greatest feature of MooseHaven is its proximity to everything Adirondack. Enchanted Forest / Water Safari, swimming, great shopping, food, the Arts Center and a magnificent public golf course are less than two miles away. Within 30 minutes you can whitewater raft, climb Bald Mountain, go horseback riding, or tour one of the great Adirondack estates. About Us: We, the Ritchie's, have loved coming up to Old Forge for years. In 2007 we found this place and thought it would way be a great way to enjoy the Adirondacks for many years to come. We want you to feel like this is your home as well, and have tried to furnish it with everything you need so you can relax and unwind with your family for the time you are, and certainly hope you return year after year.
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Old Forge: Old Forge is loaded with activities, things to do, see, eat and enjoy, all while maintaining the charm of a cozy Adirondack mountain village. The stores are plentiful and unique, the shopping a great experience. Even the water park is well done - quaint but modern. The people here are legitimately friendly, the golf excellent, and the air pure and fresh. There is an indescribable feel that is therapeutic to all who visit. The biggest let down is always leaving town on the last day!
Why our property is special: We are literally 50 ft from the Moose River and you can go from drinking coffee on the front porch to paddling in a kayak in two minutes! (We recommend leaving your coffee mug on the porch, however.) The house is well appointed with Adirondack decor, spacious so you can spread out, and relatively new (15 years) and so everything works The town is close, (1 mile away ) but you still feel far away from any hustle and bustle. You can relax right here, or hike, bike, or kayak anywhere.

“This was our 9th summer vacation in Old Forge and our 8th year of staying at Moose Haven. It truly is our "home away from home". We love that the house is clean, comfortable and has plenty of room for our family plus a few friends that came along this year. The house has everything we need - a well-stocked kitchen and grill so we can cook meals when we don't want to go out, washer/dryer, a backyard with a fire pit for a night in, and extra bikes and kayaks to use. The river/dock is right across the street so we are able to go kayaking right from the house. Our kids (and their friends this year) absolutely LOVED seeing the deer outside and all the ducks that were swimming near the dock (and looking to be fed)! We can easily communicate with the owner about any questions/anything we need and he's always responsive. The house is a very short drive from the town/main street (and it can be walking distance) and there is access 1/4 mile up the road to the Tobie Trail for walking or biking. As we do each year before we leave, we already booked our August 2019 vacation week at Moose Haven! I can see this being our family summer vacation spot for years to come. ”

“We were so amazed with our stay! I never imagined it to be so beautiful!! The wood furniture was just absolutely beautiful!! Very well taken care of over all. Everything is there to make your trip enjoyable. We took our 3 girls and our granddaughter and had plenty of room. Having two bathrooms was a PLUS!! We loved having access to the canoes and bikes! That was a huge plus!!! I cant thank the owner enough for opening their camp to us!! So many memories were built there!! We are booking for next year and staying longer! Communication was excellent as well! Thank you!! ”

“This is my families second stay at Moosehaven. We have spent two wonderful Thanksgivings there and we cant wait to come again for next year. The home is cozy and perfect for our weekend stays. The bedrooms are spacious and the bunk beds are great for our children. We love having morning coffee by the fire place and watching the snow! We couldn't ask for anything more. ”

“Perfect location - close to all winter activities. Snowmobile trail. McCauley Mountain. Ice Skating. Snow Shoe trails. Restaurants. Very Nice and comfortable home. Has EVERYTHING you need for a perfect winter get away. Play outside all day and come back to the warm fire! Close enough to come back in between out door fun to warm up and go back out! Clean, comfortable ADK decor with plenty of room for everyone and all their winter gear. Great place, great time, Great memories!”

“My husband and I came back to the Adirondacks after many years vacationing elsewhere. What a lovely place we found at Moosehaven!! It's cozy yet spacious with a fully appointed kitchen, very comfortable beds, and every amenity we wanted. It's located in town, but tucked away from the weekend "busy-ness". There was as much to do as we chose--kayaking on the Moose River, hiking, the art exhibit at The View, shopping, or just sitting on the porch with my knitting. A family of deer visited nearly every day and loved our offerings of graham crackers. We found a wonderful restaurant (Five Corners Cafe), fortunately late in our 2 week stay. Otherwise we would have eaten there TOO often! My husband and I decided this was the best vacation we had spent in many years and are already planning on returning to Moosehaven in 2014. I highly recommend this lovely home!!”

“My family and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the cottage. It had every amenity you could think of and more! The host was very helpful and promptly answered any questions we had. There are many activities available including bike riding, kayaking on the river, hiking, and even a nearby waterpark! If you prefer the solitude, the front porch overlooking the river is the perfect spot to relax. We would definitely stay here again!!”

“Our family so enjoyed our stay at Moosehaven. The kids enjoyed the bikes and went riding everyday. The entire family loved the porch- we were even able to enjoy sitting out there when it rained. This cottage is nicely located to town. Close enough to walk but far enough to from the hustle and bustle. Kayaking on the river was alot of fun. Will definitely rent Moosehaven again.”

“We spent the long Columbus Day weekend here at Moosehaven. The pictures posted are as the place really is. I know in the past the pictures can be very misleading. Not in this case. It is just as the pictures show. The place had everything we could possibly need during our stay! We have been travelling to Old Forge for the past 3 yrs now. We've stayed in hotels...and now that we've stayed at Moosehaven...we've found our new home away from home! We're already planning our trip for next year! We're going to be regular visitors for sure!”

“MooseHaven is a tastefully Adirondack-theme-decorated, spacious, comfortable, peaceful and CLEAN rental property with all amenities available. The photos displayed on the website are EXACTLY as you will find the inside and outside of the "cottage" (which would be more aptly described as a "home" away from home)...no surprises! We particularly enjoyed morning coffee and reading or chatting on the front porch (with a view of the Moose River) where we were often visited by a family of deer (not the least bit shy) on their morning walk! The available kayaks were used to enjoy fishing on the river although the "big one" really did get away along with some mighty fine lures! An evening fire in the backyard fire pit provided s'mores making and popcorn popping enjoyed by all. Daily visits to the village of Old Forge allowed for fun shopping, good restaurants, the candy store, and a Farmer's Market on Saturday. Renting at MooseHaven for a family vacation or get-away weekend will not disappoint.. It is truly a most enjoyable Adirondack experience.”

“What a great place to rent! This house is a perfet size with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. It is located directly across the street from the Moose River. They have (1) double kayak and (2) single kayaks to use. There are also 4 bicycles on the property to use. The house was VERY well furnished with a fully stocked kitchen- anything you would need is there! to the washer & dryer. It is very nicely decorated with adirondack blankets, log beds, log end tables etc etc! It is such a nice, quiet location where you can sit on the front porch, or walk/bike around the nearby streets. The owner was very easy to contact- and always answered e-mail questions promptly! I highly recommend this place on your next visit to Old Forge or the surrounding area!!”

“We have been renting MooseHaven for 4 years now and look forward to going there every year. The owners are wonderful and they provide you with a beautiful home to relax in. There is a washer and dryer on site, so you don't have to pack everything in your dresser. The rooms are good size and the house has a wonderful adirondack feel to it. The master bedroom has a bathroom with shower off it and there is another full bath in the house as well. Our four boys, who are no longer boys, seemo enjoy going there every year too. There is something for everyone, whether it be mini-golf, the water park, shopping or hiking, there is plenty to do and just about everything is in walking distance from the property. There are kayaks provided by the owners and the river is right across the street. Kayaking the river is very relaxing and you can even get some fishing in. This is a great place to vacation and this house is a wonderful place to stay. I love the front porch and spend every morning out there with a cup of coffee just enjoying the peacefulness. Any one who rents this place will truly enjoy it.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at "MooseHaven" this Pre-Season. When we first walked in we were pleasantly surprised at the tasteful adirondack style decor all throughout. It felt just like home. Everything we needed was there as far as supplies, pillows, great book selection and even sheets and towels (maybe we missed that last part in the details because we brought our own, but it was nice knowing they're there for the next time we stay - and with the washer and dryer we could just wash them). Having 2 little kids it was convenient to being able to do a few loads of wash before heading home. Location is superb! Right across from the Moose River - we were able to kayak so easy, no need to cart the kayaks around. We really enjoyed riding our bikes down the road to Green Bridge Rd, to Thendara and then down Main St. and back for a full cricle. Easy walk to town. Neat, Clean, Good Size Back Yard, Nice blacktop level driveway for kid's bikes. Front Porch with view of river. We've rented at least 4 other houses in Old Forge, and this was hands down the best. We honestly couldn't have asked for anything better. It's worth noting that our experience regarding the rental set up and process was very professionally handled. The owners obviously treat the business of renting this home out seriously. Highly recommend.... as long as you don't book when we want it! LOL. : ) ”
