My Husband and I have been traveling to Lake placid for the last 22 yrs. We have stayed in a lot of rentals in Jay / keene and the Acres, but never twice. Never liked a house enough to come back. There was always something wrong. Well, i think we found it! When i pulled up, the cabin looks very small but what a surprise when you enter. My heart warmed and i knew we had found our cabin! it was warm and inviting and decorated as i would have done. The kids were very happy with the game-room and when our friends arrived they felt the same. How nice, how beautiful, how cozy and just a treat. We had a memorable Christmas! We will be back if you'll let us again and again!" - Tomskins Cove , N.Y. Gloria and Kenny Kerr
"When we told our friends that we had rented a cabin over the internet they all shook their heads and said good luck. Well, we did have good luck because the cabin was even nicer than the pictures. Once more I want to say thank you for the use of your great cabin. We felt like we were staying in the home of a friend. We hit almost peak color for the season and got terrific pictures. Because there were 8 of us we weren't sure about a whole week together, but we hardly saw each since there was lots to do. I did just as I planned to do - read and relax. The kids went sight seeing and shopping in Placid. Some went fishing and some went canoeing. We all got together in the evenings to enjoy s'mores over the fire pit. Of course, we all had our turn at playing air hockey and Foosball with our 11 year grandson. (We won't say who won.) Now our friends are hoping we can come up next year with them if all goes well. Thanks again." - Larry and Susan
Kathleen ,We received the deposit, thank you. We all wanted to tell you that we had a wonderful time at your place. It was comfortable, spacious, and well furnished. Our kids liked being able to go fishing and going on the canoe. We also wanted to tell you that the way you depicted your home on your web site was really the way it was. We've had the experience of going to places and finding that they were not as described or pictured. You can imagine the wonderful surprise we had when we saw your place. Thank you. We are hoping that we can head out to Jay again. It was a lot of fun. Take care of yourself and your family." - Eddie and Joanne
We had a great time, but I can't believe how brave you are for having so many beautiful things and personal things in your cabin...It made us feel so at home and so comfortable...but I was so worried for you...All the other houses we rent in the acres are furnished with garage sale furnishings or left over old couches and beds and chairs, certainly not expensive things...but it was such a nice change..." - Jessica"
We just got back from our 3 days at your cabin. Thanks so much for answering the phone on Sunday night and being so accommodating at the last minute. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and we are very interested in renting it again in August if there is availability." - Ed and Dawn "
Thank you so much for sharing your " special place " with us. It was just what the doctor ordered, and then some. I truly appreciate your organization and your recommendations as well. We definitely took advantage of them and especially enjoyed the afternoon at the " Watering Hole ". Again we all thank you and look forward to another visit. This trip made us realize just how beautiful the adirondack's are!" - Rich and Karen "
There is no other place I would have rather spent spring break! The cabin is amazing! So relaxing and " homey ". The scenery here is so beautiful and the mountain is so much fun! We spent the week skiing / snowboarding, ice skating, eating in town, going down the toboggan, ice luge, and making S'mores by the fire outside, among other things. We can not thank you enough for letting us spend the week here in your cabin! WE LOVE LAKE PLACID!!! Thanks again" - Cory, Ashley, Melanie, Lucas, Christian and Jess "
Dear Kathleen and Jim, Where do I start, What a wonderful place you have in this little town of Jay, NY! A little slice of heaven. I can't stress to you enough what a wonderful time my family and I had. Everything from relaxing in the ultra comfortable and inviting environment to the crazy trips to the Au Sable River to swim in the rapids was exactly what we all needed. The first half of the week my side of the family joined us. We had kids galore here and what a fun and exciting time everyone had. Naturally, we cooked up a storm with lots of great food and company, went to Wet and Wild Wednesday at the ski jumps (My niece won two gift certificates for dinner for two!), hiked at the Au Sable Chasm to see the falls, hiked Owl Head Mt. to see the 360 degree panoramic view, swam in the river by the covered bridge, went canoeing, went miniature golfing and the list goes on and on. The second half of the week my husband's side of the family joined us and it was more of a relaxed time. We shopped at the wonderful shops in Lake Placid, had campfires, watched movies, ate, ate and ate some more, and of course took time to drive up Whiteface Mt. No matter what the activity was, we always felt at home and looked forward to a restful sleep in your comfortable cabin. We truly felt honored to be allowed to stay in such a home with all your personal belongings. We can't thank you enough! Your place will surely be talked about for years to come. Your cabin comes with the best of recommendations on our behalf. Thanks again for your generosity in opening up your home to us!" - Sincerely, Suzanne Masiello-Bucci Webster, NY "
Kathleen, I wanted to send you a note to thank you for letting us use you cabin these past few weeks. From everything in the cabin we could tell this place is special to you all. Thanks for sharing your home. We tried to leave the cabin as clean as when we got here. Thank you again. We had a great two weeks." - Tina, Matt and Gabe"
Hi Kathleen -- I just wanted to let you know we had a great time. Your home is beautiful. The kids loved everything there was to look at and the little one passed quite a bit of time wandering around reading the decorative signs throughout the cabin. The girls made up names and stories for all the animals. You should have heard what they came up with for the fox w/the squirrel above the doorway to the hall. Hilarious! Fortunately the weather cleared after the first night and we were able to spend most of our time outdoors. We went to the lake attempting to fish several times, but the only thing we caught was my nephew on one of my niece's hooks. I'm sure you can imagine the scene. We went to Whiteface, High Falls Gorge, the North Pole (I had to take them...ONCE!!!), the Ski Jumps and into Lake Placid each day. Too much in too little time--when you're staying in such comfortable accommodations it would have been nice to just stay in. Maybe next year... All in all it was a spectacular trip and the kids and my parents loved it. And staying at your home played a huge role in that. At the end of the day that's all that matters. Thank you so much!" - Erin

About Us: Our Names are Kathleen and James . We have been going to Whiteface Mountain for years with the kids. And it got too expensive to rent multiple hotel rooms. On a rainy day we went out exploring and were looking at " For sale " cabins just for fun. We found one, it needed a lot of work but we saw the potential and that weekend we put in a bid. 6 weeks later it was ours! Great memories for our children and 9 grandchildren .
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Jay: Whiteface mountain is a 10 min drive, Lake Placid is 22 mins, Ausable Chasm is 15 mins. The Ausable River is all around us with all it's great fishing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, sleigh riding, hiking trails, mountain climbing, canoeing is all at our door step! The Covered Bridge and the watering hole is a 5 min drive.
Why our property is special: The cabin is such a peaceful and serene place. We own 4+ acres, If you want to relax this is the place to be. That is why so many of our visitors want to head back to the cabin after a day out just to sit in front of the wood stove to relax. Our grandchildren love to sit at the living room window & wait for the deer or raccoon to stroll by or head to the lean-to with the fire pit, spring , summer or fall to roast marshmallows, while the adults sit back & have a glass of wine or a bottle of beer

“We rented the cabin with my family and some of our extended family. We were initially concerned with the warm winter and the lack of snow this season. It turned out that we had the best time skiing and doing all the winter activities that the Adirondaks has to offer. Whiteface was not very crowded, which was great, but the conditions were good. We ended up getting snow midweek which transformed the brown landscape to a beautiful winter wonderland. Some of our highlights were; ice skating and the toboggan chute in Lake Placid, tubing at Mt. Pisgah, watching the Bobsled World championship, dinner at the Wilderness Inn and of course skiing at Whiteface. We had nine people staying at the cabin. The cabin accommodated all of us and did not feel crowded. The cabin was very warm and comfortable. As another reviewer stated, It was like staying at a friend's home. The decorations and furnishings were beautiful, yet the cabin was kid and dog friendly. The cabin had a good vibe, a feeling that others had shared this space and had a good time, as we were. The downstairs area with the sitting area and game room was really great. With nine people staying together all week, it was nice to be able to sometimes split up into distinct areas. My only concern was with the steep driveway as depicted in the photographs. We do not have four wheel drive vehicles and we were worried that we could potentially get stuck in heavy snow or ice. With the threat of snow midweek of our stay, we decided to park our vehicles at the top of the driveway on the side of the road. That end up being fine with no incident. We have been coming to the Adirondaks pretty regularly both in the summer and winter. We tend to camp outdoors in the summers. We would definitely rent this cabin again either in the summer or winter. ”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for the nice review ! Our drive way is on a incline which is no problem in the summer , but winter you are better off with a 4 wheel drive . But we do have the parking space at the top . Thanks , Kathleen We now have a second driveway from the back of the cabin . Totally flat . Many many parking area’s ( the drive way is one acre long )”
