Camp Oxbow started as a 19th Century log cabin, and now with new and modern conveniences you can enjoy beautiful views of a private Adirondack lake. Camp Oxbow has it all - plus a sandy waterfront. Tucked away on a bay in the southwest corner of Rainbow Lake, Camp Oxbow offers scenic views from upstairs and from the broad screened porch, and easy swimming out front. Original hand-hewn timbers and a cobblestone fireplace in the great room add authentic charm. The handy kitchen has maple cabinets …built by an Adirondack craftsman. Camp Oxbow offers your choice of relaxation amid the pines, hiking up Buck Hill or to Jones Pond, and canoeing along Forever Wild waterways. Sightseeing favorites are within a short drive: the Paul Smiths Visitors Center, White Pine Camp, or the Wild Center, to name a few.
Camp Oxbow sleeps six in three enlarged bedrooms: one with double bed, one with queen, one with two singles. Enjoy the great room (25' x 21') or screened porch, the fully equipped kitchen off the great room, 2 modern full baths, and wall heater. Enjoy the waterfront with fire pit and outdoor furniture, under giant pines and birch. Waterfront of 105' welcomes you to the out of doors. Enjoy sunning on the beach, paddling by canoe or kayak or fishing along up to 25 miles of quiet shores of preserved state land up the Rainbow River to Lake Kushaqua. Rainbow is a private lake with no public access, stocked yearly for fishing, and the scenery is classic Adirondacks. Or take the short carry to Jones Pond and connect to the St. Regis Canoe area and the Saranac Lake Chain, which offer more miles of scenic paddling.

“This is our second year renting Oxbow, and it's always a great experience. Great decor and ambiance in this rustic, but up to date camp. The screened in front porch, with it's view, is a great place to relax no matter the weather. The beach is a great place to relax, and you have it all to yourself. Beautiful landscaping and generous parking are added pluses. We plan on returning often.”

“This is our 12th summer renting this lovely camp on Rainbow Lake. The sandy beach, the lovely screened in porch and the included canoe and two person kyack are just a few of the things we love about this place. It is always well maintained and clean when we arrive and includes high quality linens. The call of the loons, a heron sighting and some good paddles on the lake have filled our week here. The place is well appointed and very comfortable!”

“What a treat to wake up every morning to the songs of vireos and to be seradaded each evening by the hermit thrush! We brought our own kayaks and easily put in from the beach every morning. Rainbow Lake is such a beautiful place to paddle, and we even encountered three otters one day! We did visit Saranac Lake and Lake Placid (the Lake Placid Library is absolutely fabulous) to do "touristy" things and to eat out, but our favorite times were at the cabin, on the lake, and hiking each day on trails at the VIC. The screened-in porch was perfect for sharing coffee (or wine) and reading. Loved the updates to the cabin and the beautiful views from the front windows. Can't wait to come back! ”

“My wife two children and I spent the last week of July here. We fished every day, I caught a northern pike (20+ inches) of the dock on the last day. We caught several other fish northerns, bass, perch, and Sunnys. We played games on rainy days and having the internet was a nice touch. My wife and daughter spent some time sunbathing down on the beach. We had a camp fire every night that it didnt rain (3 nights). Went too White Face and high falls gorge on one day, had lunch at The Cottage at Mirror Lake, and Donnellys for some ice cream a few times. ”

“This property is a vintage Adirondack home that has been nicely updated. We had a wonderful time enjoying the lake and the quiet solitude of this location. The sandy waterfront was great for the kids and the fire pit. Home is nicely furnished and the screen porch was so relaxing and bug free. Utilized the kayak and canoe for both paddling and fishing. Many great memories.”

“We had a wonderful stay at this charming cabin that is even more lovely and spacious than it looks in the photos. The screened porch is great for drinking coffee, reading a book, or having a cocktail after a day of paddling. It is located in an exceptionally quiet part of an already quiet lake. The hosts were very helpful and responsive and the cabin was spotless. All in all, it was a great place to stay and we look forward to returning!”

“Camp Oxbow is a very clean and comfortable cabin to stay at. We spent a week here and had a wonderful time kayaking/fishing (ours) and playing games (some we brought some where provided). The beach area is very nicely set up for camp fires and just spending time with the family. The layout of the kitchen, dinning and living room is very nicely done and you can converse with people in any part of the cabin. Beautiful views from all rooms. ”

“We so enjoyed our stay! The rental was clean and had a well stocked kitchen. Pamphlets were available in case you were looking to go on day trips to area attractions. It was a very restful vacation and pretty quiet, neighbors were nice. Everything was cozy and comfortable and the showers were not lacking in pressure or hot water. I would like to recommend this as a great place to stay.”

“Our family (boys aged 2 and 5, my wife, myself) spent a very enjoyable and relaxing week at Camp Oxbow toward the end of June 2023. The location is remote (no internet, spotty cell service, near the end of a dirt road that was 2WD-passable), but not overly so (10-minute drive to a deli-inclusive convenience store). My wife and I enjoyed relaxing on the screened porch in the evenings after the kids were in bed, as well as hiking the kid-friendly trails located in the surrounding area (Henrys Woods, Panther Mountain, Cobble Lookout). The hikes garnered decidedly mixed reviews from the younger members of our party, but they thoroughly enjoyed, in approximately descending order , Le Taz Skatepark in Montreal (2-hr drive), swimming in the lake/playing in the sand, the Adirondack Wild Center near Tupper Lake (41-minute drive), the Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake (20-minute drive), and the bobsled and ski jump simulators at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum (35-minute drive). The owners gave the distinct impression of being very fine people and are obviously and rightfully proud of the charming and rustic property they have cultivated on Rainbow Lake.”

“We very much enjoyed our stay at Camp Oxbox in August. The house, a historic log cabin with a new addition, is well designed, comfortable and well kept. The kitchen has all the essential and the decor is simple and uncluttered. The linens and beds were comfortable. The view over the lake from the screen porch is excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed drinking our morning coffee and looking at the moon and stars sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch. We kayaked on the lake almost everyday and enjoyed exploring the many areas of the lake from the house. We watched a fox in the yard early one morning from the second floor bedroom windows. The location also allowed us to take our kayaks easily to other nearby lakes as well as go to Plattsburgh (one of our favorite places to day trip for a favorite bakery and getting some groceries) and access local hiking trails. It is also convenient to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. The lack of internet access required some work arounds for us when looking for information about where to go, when things are open, etc but was not a show stopper as I was looking to be "unplugged" for the week.”

“We enjoyed a really wonderful week at Oxbow on Rainbow Lake. We loved the look and feel of this true Adirondack cabin. The screened in porch was a terrific place to spend time, not only when it rained, but to enjoy views of the lake any time of day. It provided a great space for our young grandson to play as well. We loved having a sandy waterfront, a fire pit, picnic table, dock, and access directly from the cabin to kayak and canoe on Rainbow Lake. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring this incredibly beautiful lake, which is a real gem with plenty of wilderness to enjoy. We also appreciated the proximity to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. This is a wonderful place in a terrific location. ”

“Spent a wonderful week at Camp Oxbow. The house is very clean and comfortable. Beautiful view from screened porch and bedrooms. The owners are very responsive and have provided all the essentials for your visit. If you enjoy fishing, there are plenty of bass and pike in Rainbow Lake. Enjoy the paddle to Clear Pond and hook some smallmouth. We try to spend a week every year visiting the ADK. This was our best week yet!”

“This was our first time renting Camp Oxbow and it was a wonderful experience. The camp was spacious, clean and in a beautiful setting. It has the best of both worlds, beautiful silence for relaxation and access to a variety of actvities when you want to go out. Communication with the owners was excellent. One thing we would have liked was use of the washer and dryer. The laundry starts accumulating after a few days of adventures! We would definitely recommend Camp Oxbow and look forward to staying again.”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for your post and suggestion. We certainly would like to provide our guests with us of a washer and dryer but being on a well and woodland septic system we would not wish for our guests to be inconvenienced by septic or well failure.”

“Had a great time at Oxbow, the cabin was comfortable, the lake was perfect for paddling and Saranac Lake is relatively close for eating out. Paul Smiths College with a nice library is 4 miles away if you need internet access. Our Verizon cell phone signal at the cabin was close to non-existent most of the week however it is typical in the Adirondacks. Oxbow was beautifully renovated and we thank the owners for sharing their cabin with us. Lastly, one should have an understanding of the deadbolt system on the main door and a plan from the owner on what to do if you are locked out of the cabin with no phone service or key. Again, a lovely cabin and the owners were great to work with.”

“Had a lovely stay at Oxbow. The location was perfect, situated near the quieter part of Rainbow Lake close to the Flow especially for early morning or sunset paddles. Watched Loons and saw an eagle in flight. Paddled all accessible areas from the cabin, Rainbow Lake, Clear Pond, The Flow, Rainbow Narrows, North Branch, Kushqua Narrows and Lake Kushqua. To get to Buck Pond required a portage. Short drive to Osgood. The cabin was clean and definitely shows it is cared for and maintained. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of pillows were provided. Night lights were plentiful. Two of the rooms had an amazing overview of the lake. Appliances worked well. Enjoyed the fire pit. We were aware that there would be no internet. Because our mobile phones could barely pick up a signal it was difficult to look up restaurants but not a significant issue. We were able to text the owners for recommendations. The local restaurant they recommended was the best and we were able to sign into the restaurants internet. Owners were very accommodating for minor requests and pleasant to interact with. A wonderful relaxing get away.”

“We recently stayed at Oxbow. The area it is located is an ideal location. You have the best of both worlds. As you sit in the screened in porch, you have your coffee looking out at Rainbow Lake. The loons and other water fowl, fly in and out. It's very peaceful. You can jump in the car and in a very short time, you can enjoy the sites in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake to name a few. The cabin was spotless when we got there. It is very well kept and up to date. There were plenty of linens and the kitchen had everything one would need. The two bathrooms are a major plus. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking in this area.”

“We just completed our 10th year of renting Oxbow on Rainbow Lake for a week. It is a lovely spot on a cove. We appreciate the care and attention this camp has received as it is clean, comfortable and well appointed. Morning coffee on the screened in porch with a beautiful view of the water, kyacking with the loons and heron, a cool dip in the lake and grilling a good meal are some of the highlights. We also appreciate the fabulous mountain vistas while driving into town for a bite to eat or visiting an art gallery. We always feel at home at Oxbow.”

“This is a wonderful, very appealing and comfortable cabin in a quiet cove with great access to the larger part of Rainbow Lake. Easily houses 5 or 6 with a fine living, dining room with kitchen; great counter space for cooking and a lovely sandy beach waterfront with a dock for sitting by the lake. Close to excellent hiking and additional paddling (there is a lot of paddling on the pond parts of the lake, the Saranac flow, the Saranac river and up in the adjoining lake) including those at Paul Smith's and out of the extra foot and car traffic of the high peaks. Highly recommended”

“We have been so fortunate to rent beautiful Camp Oxbow for many years. We love the Saranac Lake area with its many interesting places to explore be it an art gallery in Saranac Lake or a great hike on a nearby trail. Camp Oxbow is always clean and well appointed with quality linens and kitchen. The upstairs renovation has three lovely bedrooms and a bathroom. The lake views from the screened in porch are a beauty to behold in the changing light, the perfect place to share breakfast and morning coffee as well as happy hour. We so appreciate the supply of boats including a canoe, row boat and two person kyack to explore the endless waters and the unique glacial geologic feature- an esker, which is a long narrow piece of land out in the water. Loons, kingfishers, heron and otters are all wonderful on Rainbow Lake. One of our favorite things is an island campsite we annually go to for a picnic. Thanks to the owners for all you do to maintain such a great place!”

“If true beauty need be found, it is here at Camp Oxbow. This wonderfully appointed 18th century cabin invites you warmly to an original "Adirondack Camp" as you enter it's sturdy, rough-hewn entry door. Character and history welcome you to a spacious living area with a stone warmed hearth and antique furniture, leading you out to a full length screen porch offering nothing less than stunning views of this pristine lake. The second newer level offers a wonderfully modern 3 bedrooms with floor to ceiling knotty pine, giving the two main bedroom inhabitants yet more stunning lake views. The stroll to the lake leads you upon a sandy beach area with dock and photo-worthy views of the sunrise between the whispering pines. One cannot leave this place without an overwhelming feeling or peace and tranquility. ”

“Camp Oxbow is a quaint but fully renovated 1800's cabin outfitted with all modern amenities. Oxbow sits on a quiet bay on beautiful Rainbow Lake. Birds are everywhere - we loved waking up to the loons singing and the bald eagles flying overhead - the kingfishers diving for fish, and the majestic great blue herons. Fishing was awesome, we caught a 4lb bass about 100' from the dock. The owners are eager to make sure your stay is wonderful and are easy to contact. The kitchen has a new stove and all necessary implements should you want to cook at home, or there are some great restaurants withing 40 minute driving distance. We have vacationed at Oxbow for at least six summers, and will definitely come back again. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best - but getting away from your phone is what vacation is all about. The cabin easily accommodates six adults. We highly recommend.”

“Our first year to this part of the Adirondack region. ... we are used to the busy Old Forge area. What a gem this cottage is....modern but yet rustic. We enjoyed the new restyled bathrooms, the comfortable seating and bedding. We enjoyed the beach and the canoe. Private and quiet but close enough to the VIC and the Wild Center. At the same time we shopped in Saranac and Lake Placid and even hiked and biked the area. A + from a teacher on summer vacation.”
