Welcome to our listing on Adirondack By Owner. We hope you will enjoy your visit and that it will be informative in helping you plan your vacation. We've included a basic description below, but for a complete list of amenities, guidelines, camp details, policies, add-ons and more, please check back for a link to our new website which should be up and running soon! Our island camps are located on Sixth Lake in Inlet, NY. The camps are situated on a private wooded island, which is just a short boa …t ride from the parking area. A 20 ft. pontoon boat is provided for your use and is conveniently docked near our parking area.Once you are at the island, take a deep breath, smell the woods, and take that first kayak trip around the island and under the foot bridge. There are two docks on either side of the island for your use. One is for docking the boats. It faces up the channel toward Seventh Lake. This dock also gets the morning sun and is a great place to have that first cup of coffee. The other dock faces south and gets the sun all day and is great for swimming as well as catching breathtaking sunsets. The white cedar Bunkhouse is included with the Main Cabin rental. It is, however, available to rent separately in weeks excluding those in July and August. It has a knotty pine interior, wood floors, a screened in porch with table and chairs, where a good, hearty camp breakfast can be enjoyed. There is a gas grill, a lounger, and a rocker on the porch. From the front porch you will enter the open kitchen, dining, and living area. The kitchen is fully equipped with all electric major and small appliances including microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and blender. The dining area has a trestle table with benches, and the living area has beautiful hickory rockers in front of the wood stove, making it a cozy area for reading or sitting and chatting. The master bedroom on the main floor has a queen bed, nightstands, two dressers, and French style doors that go out on to a small private balcony. The bathroom is a full bath with tub and shower.A spiral staircase will take you up to the open concept loft where there is a "family room" area with a futon, rocker, coffee table, Direct TV and DVD player. At the other end of the loft is a queen bed and two twin beds. The loft is a great place to sleep, nap, watch TV or read. The log sided main cabin is just a short walk from the bunkhouse. It is a true Adirondack Camp with a beautiful granite stone fireplace in the great room which has a tray ceiling and lake views from all windows. A special place to relax or have breakfast is the screened porch along the front of the camp complete with a beautiful view of the lake. The camp has a full bathroom and two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed. It also has a separate in-law suite with a queen bed, full bathroom, sitting area and porch complete with a mini refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. The grounds are woodsy and fun for kids to explore. There is a campfire spot by the water, a great place for having a fire in the evening. Tall hemlocks and graceful ferns will make you feel that Adirondack magic. The loons will confirm this as they call to each other; that is one of our favorite sounds in the region. We allow dogs on the island because it is private and we are dog-lovers! Just be sure to clean up after them. Smoking is allowed outside only, using a coffee can or other metal container for cigarette butts. There is a washer and dryer on the porch of the Main Cabin, accessible to both places. You are welcome to use them if you need to do laundry while you are there. The only things you need to bring are your own linens, sheets and towels. We do have pillows and blankets. You should also consider a fall rental. It is a beautiful time of year here, with all its colorful splendor!Local Attractions:Boat down to the end of Seventh Lake and you will find a beautiful sandy beach that we call The Sand Bar- great for little ones to chase minnows in the warm shallow pools. About Us: We, Judy and Peter, are a mother/son partnership from Cortland, NY. Judy lives in Cortland with her husband of 39 years, Joe. Together they have 5 children and 5 grandchildren! Peter lives with his wife, Leigh and 2 daughters in Camillus, NY. Together we have run our family business spanning over 2 decades, and now we are embarking on this new chapter of our lives
Why our property is special: We have rented this camp with our entire family for 5 years before buying it. It has been a great place for us to spend a week in the summer, and one of the few that can actually accommodate our ever growing family! We purchased it in December of 2019 to maximize our enjoyment and to share it with others! We are very excited to have the opportunity to share our newly acquired island with you!

“I was very pleased with the upgrades to the rental property. Better table placement, the beautiful and, appropriate adironondack chairs on the dock, the roomier en-suite. The property was clean and well-kept. There were adequate serving dishes, kitchen appliances, cleanng products and utensils. We did not want for a thing. Me and my family will be happy to return.”
Owner's Response
“Thank you Lynn, we'll be looking forward to hearing from you next year!”

“This is a terrific place! My sisters and I have gathered at the camp for the last few of year with our families. The owners have continued to take great care of the place. They put a lot of thought into the maintenance from year to year. There are plenty of places to swim. Although it is only accessible by boat, it's fairly easy in terms of logistics. There is a slight walk up from the landing, but was easy enough for elderly relatives. There is plenty of space and everything is well maintained and very clean. The camp is well-equipped with everything you need to host a large crowd, including a number of kayaks, etc. It a beautiful spot. Although there are a fair number of boats around during the day, it still feel very private and things are very quiet in the evenings and early morning. I love to follow the sun as it move from dock to dock over the course of the day. There are plenty of loons and owls around. There are lots of hiking opportunities nearby and it close to Inlet and not far from Old Forge.”

“Thank you Elizabeth, we're so glad you continue to rent and that we can accommodate your families!”

“I almost hate to review this wonderful, special place because I want to keep it private! This special island was such a wonderful place for our family to gather. There was plenty of room for our four kids to roam, host my parents, and still have plenty of privacy and space from neighbors and each other. We felt private, but not secluded. We loved jumping off the front dock, and watching the sunset from the firepit. Our young kids loved the sandy beach, and taking kayaks around the island. Our small kids loved taking the boat out to explore sixth and seventh lake, and back and forth to town. The hosts could not be more accommodating and helpful. We had a ton of questions before, during, and after the process, and they were amazingly helpful and kind. We already booked for next summer, and cannot wait for our week!”
Owner's Response
“Thanks Emily!! We're thrilled you and your lovely family enjoyed our camp!”

“September on the island....it was quiet, relaxing.....only thing I can say is that 4 days is not enough.... We had everything we needed. Heaters worked good and are needed at night in mid September. The Island is Pretty close to perfect!”
Owner's Response
“Thanks for the review, John. We enjoyed working with you and appreciate your assistance with the layout. Also, we absolutely agree that 4 days is not enough!! Take care and keep us in mind for next year.”

“My family (grandparents, adults and 3 children) stayed at the waterfront camp and cottage during the 4th of July week and had a wonderful time. The island offers so many interesting aspects, a quiet small sunset dock, an east facing wading beach for little ones and a large south facing dock for jumping in the water and waving at passing boats. We loved the tiki torch lined path to the campfire and the Edison bulb strung lights around the picnic tables, both offering a special party ambiance. Four of the bedrooms were very nice, the fifth with a full bed, is awkwardly located right off the kitchen so when planning sleeping arrangements, keep that in mind. The two buildings are very near each other so no one feels separated. The in law suite is very cute and while it has its private space, it doesn't have it's own kitchenette. This isn't an issue as it's just a doorway away from the main cabin kitchen but for planning, it's useful to know that. We were outside most of the time as the weather was perfect but there's nice family gathering space in the main cabin living room and screened in porch. We loved taking boat trips into 7th lake and visiting the sandbar. On the night of the 4th of July we watched fireworks off the west facing dock. It was terrific working with the owners, they took time to help envision the layout and make plans where our family members would sleep. They met us at arrival describing the special arrangements they made during the pandemic and checked in on us soon into our visit to make sure everything was going well. Our family rents lakehouses each summer allowing us time to connect and enjoy each other while vacationing. This year was especially important as we've been separated during covid-19 and took special precautions (all tested) to get together. Having the added seclusion of an island in the Adirondacks was even better. This location ranks very high in our top vacation rentals.”

“Amazing! Not often our whole family gets together for a vacation but this place had it all. Privacy yet at a desirable destination. Our dogs could roam and explore. We could come together at mealtime at the huge dining table or one of the campfire pits or one of the docks then retreat to our private spaces for bed. Stunning hikes all around (highly recommend Bald Mt and Blue Lake Mt). All that, on the water, with a boat! A trip that will be hard to top next time family vacation comes up. Camp was perfect for our family and furry family too.”

“This is the third year my family has stayed on the island, and it's become a very special tradition for us. We rent both houses and enjoy the opportunity to relax with one another across three generations. In an area with no shortage of rental properties, the island is truly unique. It's not only beautiful, but also provides the perfect combination of privacy with close proximity to shopping and entertainment. The owner built the houses himself and raised his children there throughout their summers. He is deeply invested in making everyone's visit perfect. We count ourselves very lucky to have found this perfect vacation spot.”

“My family and I had the immense good fortune to escape to this charming island for the Labor Day weekend. Although planned at the very last minute, the scramble to make it happen was well worth it. From the moment we arrived at the pontoon boat for our trip to the property we felt welcomed and 'at home'. My boys (5 & 7) loved travelling to 'our own island' by boat and once there they were free to run, play and explore to their heart's content. The cabin was perfect for our little crew - the boys snuggled into the loft bedrooms and were wow-ed by the spiral staircase. The downstairs was beautifully made and cosy, and perfectly appointed. On the chillier evenings we lit the wood stove and settled in. The very fact that we wanted to go NOWHERE else during our 4 days, says a lot. The boys swam, fished and explored. I moved gratefully from dock to dock around the island -- chasing the sun. We had a campfire in the goregous setting over looking the lake to the west and awoke to the loons and the mist. The owners were gracious, friendly and lovely. Even though they were also on site, we saw them rarely and when we did we were so happy to! We will definitley return to this piece of paradise. It offers everything that I expected in an ADK getaway with the added bonus of no immediate neighbors, and a built in resistance to 'running out to town' that ensures more relaxation. Although the boat was so easy to use getting to town was a piece of cake. As we left our final morning my oldest son said sadly, "I hadn't wanted to come... but now I don't want to leave!" That says it all. ”

“Laura, what a delight for Mickie and I to have you and your family stay and enjoy the beauty of our Adirondack Island. Watching your boys having such a great time reminded us when our children did the same and those memories are so very precious and we will look forward to your return to add to your family memories. Thanks so much, Doug”

“We had a great week with family and friends at this amazing location! Everyday was filled with swimming from the dock (and slide!), using the pontoon boat to explore sixth and seventh lake area, sitting around the fire and laughing with our kids! We also spent half a day at the water park, and went out to dinner in Inlet and Old Forge, and hiked several trails. The cabins were perfect and suited our large group perfectly! I would recommend a stay at this beautiful cabin and area to everyone looking for great family time with lots of things to do together outdoors!”

“This location was perfect for our ever growing family! It had room, private space and was a true ADK experience! We used all it had to offer: swimming, sliding, boating, porch time, fishing and family fire pit time! The Camp was an added bonus for us and everything was as you might expect it to be on 6th Lake! The sound of the Loon was so relaxing and for our week....the weather was perfect!! It was also rather nice to have wifi available but even nicer to not be constantly connected !! I am positive we will be visiting again! ”

“What a wonderful week we just spent on Doug and Mickie's island camp! We rented the Camp and Cabin and it was worth every penny! You can tell from the moment you leave the dock, motor over on the pontoon boat provided and step on the island that you are in for a real treat. Once you are on the island its a quick and easy walk to either the camp or cabin. Both buildings are decorated like just like you would expect to find in a coffee table book about an Adirondack Cabin. We were lucky to have a few loons close by each day and were able to enjoy the tremolo calls and wails. Its central location made it easy to visit Inlet to pick up groceries at Kalil's and even Old Forge. Great Camp Sagamore is only 10 minutes up the road and was well worth the tour. Two nights we did not feel like cooking so we took a quick trip to Screaming Eagle Pizza and The Red Dog Tavern. We had several nights where the sky was perfectly clear during the Perseid meteor shower and dozens of shooting stars could be seen. We took the pontoon boat out to the middle of Sixth Lake and it was so clear you could see the Milky Way painted across the sky. My only regret is that we did not book our stay for a two week stay instead of just one. Thanks again Doug and Mickie!”

“My family just returned from a week in which we rented both buildings on the island. It was one of the best vacations weve had. The island provided us with the perfect place to get away and reconnect with one another across generations. It was very private and offered activities for all ages. Swimming, motor boating, fishing, canoeing, campfires, reading, playing cards and board games, cooking, (and of course lots of eating!) We really enjoyed the balance of gathering space and personal space, and we especially loved the fact that the island is perfectly positioned on the lake to capture beautiful views of both sunrises and sunsets. Overall, the property was immaculate and Doug and Mickey were wonderful hosts. Thank you so much. ”

“My husband, two children (ages 9 & 10), and I just returned from the most AMAZING vacation here on Doug & Mickie's island. The camp was rustic and charming - and stocked with everything we needed: kitchen basics, games, puzzles, fans and Directv. We loved the privacy of the island and having three boats available (canoe, pedal boat and pontoon boat) was fantastic. We saw loons, caught fish, went swimming, had campfires - everything you're supposed to do on a summer vacation. Doug and Mickie were so incredibly hospitable - Doug even chopped us up firewood for our campfire! The pontoon boat is SO EASY to drive and dock - it felt like I was behind the wheel of my minivan. It is a short, 10 minute boat ride to the well-maintained docks where you leave your car. From there, Inlet is about 5 minutes away with a cute town and surprisingly well-stocked grocery store. The Woods has excellent dinners and the Screamen Eagle has a ton of craft beer on tap. There are many nearby hikes to choose from and, of course, a stay in the Old Forge region wouldn't be complete without taking the kids to Enchanted Forest Water Safari for a day. I cannot say enough about this wonderful gem of a rental and the kind and generous folks who own it. I'm already wishing I was back on the island! Thank you, Doug & Mickie, for sharing your beautiful property with us! - Patrick & Erin”

“An absolutely perfect get-away location for the entire family. The camp was in pristine condition, well organized and perfectly stocked with all needed items. Being situated on an Island with only 1 other camp, this spot offers both quiet solitude and easy access to the local towns. The towns of Inlet and Old Forge are only a short ride away and offer a variety of activities and dining establishments. My two children and I had a wonderful time exploring the adjoining lakes, swimming from the island docks and enjoying our very own waterslide. For a great vacation spot you cannot go wrong with this location and I will definitely be coming back again! ”

“This was our 4th year at this camp, and we could not have been more pleased. There are two buildings on the island; the owners occupy one and the other is rented out. Just this past year, the newer, smaller camp was rented out. The camp is exactly as advertised: clean, comfortable, peaceful, well-equipped. It is perfectly sized for 2-4 people, although sleeping areas could accommodate more. Being on an island, there are plenty of places to sit, whether one prefers sun or shade. The owners are helpful and knowledgable about the area, but keep to themselves so the sense of privacy is maintained. The location is perfect....while it seems remote and tucked away "on the island", it is a short boat-ride to the dock and a 3 minute ride into Inlet, with endless hiking trails within a half-hours drive. Excellent in every respect!”

“We absolutely loved our time at the Waterfront Island Camp. The pontoon boat was great for exploring the adjoining 7th Lake. Our 3 boys (10, 8, and 7) loved the pedalboat and the canoe. We like that 6th Lake is quiet and low key with not a lot of boat traffic, and we felt very comfortable letting the kids explore in the boats. They loved fishing (small but plentiful fish, just right for kids) off of any one of the 4 docks. The house was clean, well constructed, and nicely decorated. It had all of the supplies needed to cook a great meal and all of the modern conveniences (nice flat screen, wifi, etc). We all enjoyed the firepit, right by the water. The house is uniquely situated so that you can see the breathtaking sunrises right from the master bedroom. It was very peaceful and Doug, the owner, was really great. We would definitely return. ”

“ From the moment we arrived, I knew that my husband and I made the right decision to stay here. It was absolutely the perfect getaway. The Lake house was very comfortable, and the property is gorgeous. The owners were great about us bringing our older Labrador Retrievers with us, and the doggies had a great time there, too (swimming and running), and I didn't have to worry about them running away as it was an island. So, cool! In this hurry up, and get things done daily life, this was the perfect way to slow down, and sit in the woods to read a book, or watch the water drift by; but we had direct tv, too! I can't wait to go back again next year. ”
