This historic Loon Lake home was previously an inn and is now is an excellent all-season home for family reunions and other group gatherings. The house was renovated in 2019 with a new kitchen, new beds, bedding and furniture. There are 7 bedrooms, three with en suite bathrooms (plus 3 additional bathrooms), making it perfect for group gatherings. The new kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, InstantPot/slow cooker, spices, garbage bags, etc. …The large dining room provides plenty of eating space for your group. You enter the home into a lovely room with an antique piano (updated with an electronic keyboard so definitely playable!) and seating to relax, and a window area table for puzzles and games. This leads into a living room with two sofas adjacent to the fireplace and additional window seating. The woodwork is beautiful throughout the house, and there are original doors, hardware, and wood floors throughout. The furnishing are Adirondack in style, combined with a mixture of antiques and newer pieces.
The backyard is a pleasant place to relax, with a fire pit, small pond, and lovely plantings. The welcoming wraparound porch is two story with ample seating. It is a short walk (about 600 - 800 feet) to get to the waterfront area, which has a great sandy-bottom beach for swimming and a place to launch the boats. Loon Lake is a private lake and accessible to Loon Lake residents only; the beach is shared with other homeowners in Loon Lake. We have 2 kayaks, a canoe, and a stand-up paddleboard on site for guests to use to enjoy the water; motorized boats or jet skis are not allowed on the lake.
There is so much that can be done right outside the Inn. The historic golf course is no longer in operation, but is a great place to take a stroll, watch the sunrise, or stargaze. You will find old trails through the woods to explore and view the amazing architecture of many of the original historic houses. The neighbors are friendly and many love to share the history of this beautiful town. Fishing is excellent in Loon Lake, including small mouth bass, northern pike, and perch, or you can walk or drive a couple miles to the north branch of the Saranac River for trout fishing.
There are many thousands of miles of hiking and biking trails right outside the door and we are in a great location for day hikes to some of the ADK high peaks or other beautiful mountains. Hiking books are available at the house to plan your trip or ask us for recommendations. Locally famous is Crusher Mountain at the north end of the lake. It is a very short hike (15-20 minutes) to the top with a fabulous view of the entire lake and Whiteface Mountain in the background. If you are more adventurous, Loon Lake Mountain is another great option about 5 miles from the Inn. The recently maintained, well-marked trail takes you to one of the original Adirondack fire towers at the summit. This hike is about 6 miles round trip and more strenuous, but offers amazing views of the wilderness.
Take a day trip to Saranac Lake (where there's a beautiful carousel to ride!), Lake Placid, Tupper Lake (the Wild Center) or even Montreal. The Wild Center in Tupper Lake is a nature museum which is fun for the whole family and is located about 35 minutes away. Even closer is the Paul Smith's Visitors Interpretive Center, which is a great place to see wildlife in nature and learn about the local ecology. There are some great restaurants in town, lots of cool shops and many tourist attractions. Maybe take a trip back in time and ride the rails on the ADK Railroad. The Ausable Chasm is another fun outing.
We have board games, jigsaw puzzles, and a small lending library for evenings or rainy days. We could write for days about all the things you can do while staying at the Inn. One thing is for sure: you will have an awesome vacation! We are certain you will enjoy your stay at the Inn at Loon Lake and we look forward to hearing from you.

About Us: Cindy Skocik fell in love with Loon Lake when she was introduced by her neighbor from NC, who spent summers there as a child and owns a home there. Cindy then fell in love with the Inn at Loon Lake and feels honored to be a 'temporary caretaker' of that lovely old home. Cindy hopes that the home will be a peaceful, joyful gathering spot for families and groups of loved ones, where they will create wonderful memories of time spent with special people at a special place.
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Loon Lake: The hamlet of Loon Lake is one of the few existing late 1800's resort sites where clusters of century old buildings are preserved. The buildings that remain are striking in both their overall setting and their architectural beauty. Loon Lake is convenient to the ADK "High Peaks," thousands of miles of hiking, hundreds of lakes and ponds, and spectacular natural beauty. The lake itself is 3 miles long, private, clean and beautiful. Be as active or as relaxed as you choose to be!
Why our property is special: The house was built in 1890, when Loon Lake was a popular summer retreat. She's a grand old dame originally known as the "Smith House" & more recently as the "Inn at Loon Lake". Rooms are spacious & light-filled with original woodwork, doors, & hardware. She's been lovingly refreshed by new owners who are happy to be part of her history. Your family and friend gatherings at the Inn will add more happy memories to those she's already housed.

“The perfect getaway. Our large group of 8 adults and 6 young kids had plenty of room to spread out at the Inn. The rooms are large, and the beds are comfortable. It was very convenient having first floor laundry access, and the kitchen has plenty of cupboard and counter space and is well stocked with the essentials. The beach is small, but picturesque and the water clean. Everyone enjoyed jumping off the floating dock and using the kayaks and canoe. We even discovered a cool rope swing across the lake for the more adventurous of us. The kids loved wading in the creek down the road when we would collect our delicious water from the natural spring Cindy told us about-such a treat.. We loved the gondola ride up Whiteface Mountain and the Wild Center at Tupper Lake, both easy day trips. I think my only complaint is that the grocery stores in Saranac Lake were sparse and expensive, so I would recommend trying Lake Placid for groceries or to come prepared from home. Cindy was very communicative and gave us so much info to prepare for the trip. She has done a beautiful job with the inn, and we would absolutely make a return visit.”
Owner's Response
“I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay! The Inn is a special home in a special location. I didn't know there was a rope swing across the lake so thanks for that information. I'm glad the Inn met your needs and allowed you to enjoy your family time. Please do come again!”

“Our family thoroughly enjoyed a weeks reunion at this lovely inn. The pictures dont do it justice - the rooms were spacious and very clean. We found all the amenities made our stay so relaxing and fun. The spacious porches and beautiful grounds added to the restful experience. The area was quiet and peaceful. The beach was big enough for all to enjoy. We loved the sandy, shallow end because we had small children with us. We had fun with the complimentary kayaks and canoe. Even when it was cloudy or a rainy day there was so much room inside to spread out or to gather for games. I highly recommend this inn. ”
Owner's Response
“I love that your family could finally reconnect after the pandemic, and that the Inn at Loon Lake served you well. There is plenty of room for gathering and for spreading out, which makes it wonderful for larger groups - and smaller groups! Thank you for choosing my beloved place for your family's reunion.”

“We had a great vacation staying at the Inn at Loon Lake! What a beautiful house located on one of our favorite Adirondack Lakes. The wraparound porch and two separate staircases leading to separate sets of bedrooms added to the charm of the house. It was a short walk to the beach, and we spent a lot of time using the canoe and kayaks. Everyone we met was super friendly. Loon Lake is close to Saranac Lake where we saw amazing 4th of July fireworks. Such a relaxing week! It was hard to leave. ”

“We loved staying at The Inn at Loon Lake! The house is even bigger than the photos make it seem. The beds were very comfortable. There are two living spaces which was really nice. The walk to the lake is really short and perfect if you like swimming! There were not very many people in the area when we were there which was nice because we had the lake front to ourselves most of the time. The lake was pretty warm the whole visit which was nice! There were plenty of extra towels, the kitchen was stocked with tons of utensils and cups, paper towels, she even left laundry detergent if needed. There were a couple outdoor games and indoor games for your use as well as books and puzzles. There is also a tv but it was hardly used because we spend a lot of time outside or at the lake swimming. The wrap around covered porch was SO nice to have! Especially on rainy days. Cindy was great with getting back to me about any questions I had about the place! ”
Owner's Response
“I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves. It definitely is a spacious home and the photos don't really do justice to the fact that it's over 4,000 square feet of space. Thanks for choosing my home for your family's gathering”

“Just perfect. We chose this house expecting it to be a lovely, secluded location for us to spend a careful Thanksgiving 2020 together. The home surpassed our expectations. As with any older home, there are charming quirks to the house. However, the owners have done a spectacular job updating the important stuff (kitchen, bathrooms, beds) while maintaining the character of the home. If you're looking for lots of action...restaurants, bars, shopping...be aware you will need to travel. But the absence of such distractions is part of the beauty of the home and hamlet. During our November stay, not another soul seemed to be in the village, and we felt as if we have the entire lake and historical hamlet to ourselves. We could have easily had twice the number of people (under different circumstances) and we would have still been completely comfortable in the house. Plenty of space to spread out, and cozy rooms to come together in. Cindy was an absolute delight to communicate with. She even made sure we had a roasting pan available for our turkey!”
Owner's Response
“I'm so happy your family got to experience the magic of Loon Lake and the Inn at Loon Lake, and happy the Inn provided a cozy but spacious place for your Thanksgiving gathering.”

“This is a beautiful charming home my family stayed at for a week. Its a nice quiet place. The Lake is beautiful and peaceful. We kayaked at the lake and meet some very friendly neighbors. The whole family loved it from a grandmother down to her 7 grandkids. Great place to escape with lots to do. ”
Owner's Response
“Thanks for choosing my house to make family memories. I particularly love it when multiple generations are there. I'm happy you enjoyed the beauty and the peacefulness. Porch-sitting and waving/talking to neighbors and passersby is a fun part of the house's location. Come back again!”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house! The house is spacious, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped, and we especially liked the built-in griddle on the stove for pancakes every morning! The wrap-around porches are great for congregating, as well as relaxing with a good book. In fact, our only disappointment was that the lake is not visible from the house. But it's a short walk to the beach, where the view is beautiful, and the water is very clean and shallow enough for little ones. The lake is great for kayaking, and yes, there are loons! I will add that when I was first looking at the website, I hesitated about renting because one of the photos shows an open staircase with no railing, and I worried about its safety for our young grandchildren. But there is a railing now, so no worries! We would definitely consider renting this house again! ”
Owner's Response
“I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! I aim to continue to make improvements to the house, and am glad the railing felt safer for your little people. The porches are one of my favorite parts of the house, too, and then there's the lake! Thanks for choosing the Inn at Loon Lake. We'd love it if you returned!”

“I love this house. Its a beautiful home which has been preserved and lovingly restored with essential updates to the kitchen and bathrooms. This house, property and location provide ample opportunities for rest and relaxation. There were 6 of us who stayed here and there was plenty of room to work together in the newly renovated kitchen. It was well stocked with cooking utensils, had ample counter and storage space. We had fun in the game room playing games, building puzzles and having conversation. I loved sitting on the porches reading and waving to passers by. Theres plenty of porch space, seating and privacy for lots of folks. A favorite memory was spending time around the new fire pit in the back yard making s'mores. The owners have thoughtfully renovated, decorated and provided a great place to gather which is in keeping with the history of this location. Kayaks and life vests are provided and we enjoyed using them at the lake just a short walking distance from the house. I enjoyed it so much Im planning to return for another stay at this beautiful home. ”

“We stayed at The Inn at Loon Lake with our entire family to celebrate our 65th birthdays. This old home has so much character and offered great accommodations in a very historic area. The neighbors were so friendly and gracious. The beach truly is a very short walk. We brought canoes but there are 2 kayaks for use by owner. There is a spring down the hill to get fresh drinking water. We took advantage of the Wild Center in Tupper Lake which was so interesting for both the children and adults. Having 4 small children staying at the Inn, we cooked in and the kitchen was well stocked. We recommend this beautiful home. ”

“Our family of 10 stayed at this lovely step back in time Inn and made memories to remember for always. We had 8 adults and two children under 3 years old. The interesting accommodation is that there are two staircases for the upstairs but the upstairs is not joined. This gave an added amount of privacy for all guests. The weather couldnt have been better and with the ceiling fans the inn was very comfortable. The lake is within walking distance and just so refreshing and lovely. In the center of the inn is a full modern new kitchen with everything you could possibly need to cook wonderful meals. There are also many restaurants if one wanted to travel into Saranac Lake or Lake Placid. Honestly we didnt leave Loon Lake because it was so comfortable and the Inn and lake was all we needed. We are talking about making it an annual trip. I can speak for all of us, it was truly a vacation to remember. ”
Owner's Response
“I'm so glad your family enjoyed your stay! The house does have the wonderful ability for people to gather but also to have space and privacy if they want it. I'm happy the house allowed your family to create new memories! Thanks for staying there!”
