Tupper Lake Region Vacation Rentals — LISTING ID: VR8842
It is time to think about summer vacation and a week or two at camp at Lone Pine Point on Cranberry Lake, 10.9 square miles in area, located in the northwest of the Adirondack Park. Most of the shore line of Cranberry Lake is owned by the citizens of New York as State Forest or State Park. We have had tenants use Cedars as a base-camp for wilderness camping, but most enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, exploring the sights, reading, or just goofing off on the dock. We consider it a plus th …at there is no TV. Cell-phone access includes the major carriers. We have internet access; we'll give you the password for our wireless router, or you can use the town's library which provides free Wi-Fi and public workstations.
The hamlet of Cranberry Lake and its immediate vicinity have a small grocery, gift shop, gas station, laundromat, liquor store; and marinas offering boat rentals. Restaurants are 15 to 30 minutues away. The the map shows the approximate location of our camp.
The Saturday to Saturday weekly rental is $800. For your money you get a rustic cabin that comfortably sleeps six (6). There is a small bedroom with a double bed, and a large bedroom with two sets of twin-size bunk-beds. Each bed has mattress-pad, pillow, and blanket. The kitchen area at one end of the great room is equipped with stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, utensils, and pots and pans. The other end of the great room is set up as a living room, but contains a futon-couch which can serve as a double bed for two additional short term guests. The bathroom includes a shower (no tub). Cedars has a heat-pump for airconditioning and heat. There is a large porch, with table, chairs, and a charcoal grill. Just off the porch is a fire-pit with a nearby picnic table. While not meeting all ADA handicap accessible standards, there are some provisions for the mobility impaired, including a ramp to the parking area, 36" doors, an accessible kitchen sink, and low main door threshold which permits wheelchair access.
You supply bed, bath, and kitchen linens; paper-products; food; drink; and an attitude for relaxing. Sorry, no pets.
There are a number of invasive pests threatening New York's woods and forests. The State has banned transporting untreated firewood over all but a short distance. We support these measure to slow the advance of these pests. To that end, without charge, we supply campfire wood for our tenant's use. Please do not bring any campfire wood.

About Us: We enjoy spending as much time as we can in a nearby cabin and we look forward to meeting you during your stay,
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Cranberry Lake: At the end of the dock is a 12' x 16' float on which are two Adirondack chairs and room for more. The float serves as: a boat mooring, fishing pier, swim platform, conversation pit, reading room, sky observatory, thinking spot, and napping nook.
Why our property is special: Cedar (the rental cabin) and Spruce (our summer home) are literally at the end of the road. The State Park and its amenities are adjacent. We are secluded but not hidden. We have the best of both: forest and lake. We are without urban pressures, but not without most of the comforts. Neither luxury nor hardship, just comfort.

“We stayed at the cabin in mid-August 2016. As the other reviews state, the cabin had everything necessary for comfort. This was our first cabin venture, stepping up from tent and trailer camping. It was nice to be inside a structure for the one day it did rain. We found the cabin in clean condition when we arrived and left it in that condition. I felt the cabin was a good value for its price-point. I looked at many rentals before choosing this one. The owners are environmentally conscious. They have three receptacles; one for waste, one for recyclables, and one for cans/bottles with deposits, which they donate to a local charity. Be prepared to use the compost bins for organic wastes. The cabin is about 50 yards up a gently sloping hill from the owners home, so it's not actually on the water. You have shared access to the owners dock and we only shared it one time with some company the owners had over. The dock has plenty of room and is a fantastic diving platform. The water at the end of the dock is about 7 feet deep. The owners provided us with some noodles to float on as it is deep. If you have small kids, the campground swimming area is close by (minutes walk) and has a very nice sandy beach. We had little luck fishing from the dock, even with worms. We had a few bluegill hits, thieving our worms. I had some hits nearby, hooking smallmouth bass using lures from my kayak, but never landed them. You will see the owners during your stay as their home is close and their parking is beside the cabin. The owners are very nice and give you plenty of space. They were quick with information too when asked about hiking and about the surrounding area. My father particularly enjoyed talking to the owners about the lake and surrounding waters for fishing. There are several houses lakeside and each appears to have a cabin uphill from them. Our cabin was about 20 feet from the neighboring cabin, but there was no one on that property the whole time we stayed. There were four of us and plenty of room in the cabin and on the porch, where we ate most of our meals. It was very relaxing sitting on the porch reading. We had a fire every night with wood provided by the owners, which was very nice. There is a picnic table on the lawn, but we brought our own folding camp chairs to sit by the fire. You are just steps away from the public campground and some fantastic hiking. The owner directed us to the Bear Mountain trail. It was about 2.5 hours up and back, with some steep portions and large rocks to step around. The kids and I made it with no problem, but Dad, who is 94, could not attempt such a hike. The view at the top is okay, but I'm told the view isn't as good as it used to be as trees block a good part of the view now. We took a half-day trip to Tupper Lake (30 min away) and visited The Wild Center. It was $50 for three of us. There is an inside museum, which was very informative with movies and plenty of live exhibits. You can grab a lunch there or souvenirs. There are outdoors exhibits with ground trails and a very nice walkway built above the tree tops with information pods built into the walkway. The kids will love this and I highly recommend a visit! All in all, it was a very nice and relaxing stay. It didn't quite have the camping feel that we are used to, but the tradeoff was a nice cabin to retreat to when we had poor weather. My only negative comment about the cabin would be the furniture. It has a strong musty smell and me and the kids wouldn't sit on anything but the wooden kitchen chairs while in the cabin. Dad didn't seem to mind, but at 94 his olfactory sensors are not as keen as ours. If these were replaced, I'd have absolutely no complaints, but again, at this price-point, its still a great rental.”

“We recently stayed in this cabin for a week. We had a wonderful time. The cabin was very clean and had all the basics you would expect in a housekeeping cabin. It was nice and cozy. There was a new refrigerator with a freezer and a full stove. The kitchen was well supplied with dishes and pots. The porch was very spacious and it was easy to sit back and enjoy the view from there. The owners for the cabin lived in a cabin nearby, and were quite welcoming. Other cabins were close and you could hear and see other people, but there was plenty of room to use the yard and run around but it didn't feel crowded. It was overall very peaceful and relaxing. The deck on the water was large and big enough to keep our kayaks tied to it and still have lots of room to swim and lay in the sun. Nice Adirondack chairs were on the deck and made for comfortable seating while reading. The water was deep and just the right temperature. There was a canoe available to use. There was no phone service available for Verizon users like us, but that perhaps was a good thing. The Wi-Fi service we could use was only available on the porch. If you want to unplug from the world, this was a great place to go. Overall the cabin and amenities were comfortable and enjoyable. We had a splendid time and would strongly consider renting here again. ”

“The cabin was clean, comfortable and most importantly for our needs very accessible. A ramp led from the car park area directly to the back porch. The interior was relatively spacious and easy to move around in although the bed arrangement in the main bedroom prevented wheelchair access. The property owner, Leslie Anne King was extremely cooperative and responsive to our questions and requests prior to our rental and indicated she was going to switch the bed arrangment to accomodate a wheelchair. The room had plenty of space to do this. Her pre-rental reponses came within an hour or less of our questions. The back porch overlooked the back yard which gently sloped down toward the lake. I would estimate a 100 yard walk to the lake although the uphill return to the cabin was difficult in a wheelchair. All in all we were very very pleased with our rental and the accessibilty was excellent which is rare for this type of property. ”
Owner's Response
“The bed has been moved, the bedroom is now easily accessible for a wheelchair! Thanks, John for the kind words.”
